1. Minutes of the previous meeting, 12 July 2006, were approved as written.
2. Reports:
A. Ernest Loewenstein presented a draft APT newsletter. There was a discussion of format and a review of the text.
B. Barry Steinberg
(1) The Urban Ring Committee is spinning its wheels. I presented my ‘IndiGO Line’ proposal to Neil Codd (p.e.), who signs the meeting notices as ‘Manager of Plan Development, EOT’. The next meeting is to be on Tuesday, 12 Sep at 4 p.m. at Park Plaza. [This latter information inserted after the APT Board Meeting—BMS.]
(2) There was a consensus that we should set up an APT trip date with expenditure and joint publicity with the Mass. Bay Railroad Enthusiasts. Specifics will be provided later.
(3) The latest Move Mass. meeting is to feature Wig Zamore.
C. Vincent Dixon re the Regional Transportation Advisory Council (RTAC):
Recommendations on the Unified Project Work Program (UPWP) and the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). Vince presented a statement that the Green Line to Somerville/Medford is important and should be reflected in official documents. We must not faith with the Somerville people. The commitment to rapid transit seems to be lightly treated vs. highway projects.
By being present and stating our positions, we can raise questions and make points. We can bring up clear points that others may not address. Transit advocates have to be strong.
3. Old Business:
A. The APT priority list: We need volunteers to make our interests a working list.
How do we simplify our priority list? Vincent: We need contact with the legislators—legislative outreach.
Barry Steinberg: E-mails to legislators.
John Hostage: We cannot spam them.
Vincent: There should be a short monthly e-mail to legislators, 150 words typically. And to our people to ask to write to their legislator. We should designate an APT person, and GET IT DONE.
Barry Andelman: The APT expert on the specific issue should write it, and pass it along to Rick for action.
B. UPWP Submittal.
Vince should make a review of the proposals and write up something for Rick’s submittal.
4. New Business: GREENBUSH LINE TRIP
Motion by Barry M. Steinberg, seconded by Vincent L. Dixon, that APT appropriate not more than $1000 for a bus tour of the Greenbush Line. Passed unanimously.
The tentative date is Sunday, 22 October. [Because of a schedule conflict, the date was later changed to Sunday, 29 Oct.—BMS.]
5. The meeting adjourned 8:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
BARRY M. STEINBERG
