MINUTES OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
15 JANUARY 2003, 6 p.m.
(approved 12 February 2003)

Attendance: Fred Moore (presiding), John Hostage, George Kelso, Romin Koebel, Carolyn Mieth, Barry M. Steinberg

Guests: Andy Rubel

  1. Officers’ Reports.
    1. Barry Steinberg: Hamel Husbands, a resident of Mattapan, attended our informal September 2002 Board meeting. He raised the subject of two bus routes that are merged at night hours, having only one bus route number on the destination sign, leading to confusion on the part of passengers. We at APT made an issue with the T about it. Recently we saw a bus at Ashmont signed "27/30 Roslindale Sq." "via Mattapan". Success!
    2. Fairmount Field Trip. (Barry Steinberg) The T ran a field trip by bus today from Park Plaza, downtown, via the current Fairmount Route railroad stations, to Fairmount and Readville. It was led by T Planning’s Joe Cosgrove. The question was raised of possible development at stations and making these stations more visible. At the outer points, passengers are more used to riding commuter trains than those in the inner portion of the route. We are going to look further into this subject and get back to the T.
  2. Car-Free Progress Report (Andy Rubel)

Andy distributed the Introduction, Table of Contents and chapters one through five for review. He would like them reviewed and returned by 1 Feb. We have had to cut the page count to keep the book an appropriate size, but it is still going to be larger than the previous edition by eleven pages. All maps have been re-done.

At or before the next Board meeting, the complete review copy will be distributed, with an additional review circle, including the T. Again there will be a two-week suspense period. We plan to send it to press by 1 Mar. The actual distribution of the book would commence the second half of March.

  3. Annual Meeting Preliminary Plans (Romin Koebel)
  4. MoveMass has set up a slot for their meeting of 9 May. They are going to have some German transit officials speaking. We may be able to get them.

We need a venue that is more accessible than that of last year.

  5. E-communication and Web Site Issues.
  6. Fred Moore has been working on getting our Clerk on line.

  7. The minutes of the previous meeting, 11 Dec 2002, were approved.
  8. The meeting adjourned 8:22 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

BARRY M. STEINBERG

Clerk
